Elope Asheville is going social!

A lot changes in four years.

Back in 2010, when I started Elope Asheville, there wasn’t as much social networking as there is now.  I mean, Facebook was a thing.  So was Twitter.  But there’s a lot – a LOT – of social networking out there now, and it’s hard to sift through it all.

Admittedly, it’s an aspect of getting the word out about Elope Asheville that I have more or less ignored.  My blog has been spotty.  I struggle to think of 140 characters to write.  I have been taking pictures of my couples with my iPhone with the intent to paste on Elope Asheville’s Facebook page, but it usually doesn’t even make it there.  It’s amazing that any of you have even found this website!

I’m so 1998.  It’s a surprise I don’t have a flashy MySpace page as my home page.

So, it’s been my goal this spring to jump in and get my social media up and running, and I would love it if you could:

1) Encourage Me:  In a previous career, I was a broadcaster.  I spent fourteen combined years behind a microphone and in front of a camera talking to, basically, inanimate objects.  When I was in radio, I would spend eight hours in a room the size of a closet, talking into a microphone, with the assumption that someone was listening.  I would get calls for requests, but only when someone would call in laughing at what slipped out of my mouth would it make me realize I wasn’t just talking to myself.  So, if you could comment, follow, Like, etc.. and let me know someone is actually listening, it will encourage me to write more.  When I write more, you can get a better idea of what you want, and we can better make your wedding day YOUR wedding day.

2) Share with your friends and family:  I have no shame in begging.  I’m a small, independent business.  My wife and young twin girls depend on me.  My wonderful, gorgeous couples help me support my family.  The more people who know about Elope Asheville, the better everyone is.  I help you save thousands and thousands of dollars – and tons of stress – on your wedding day, and you help me raise my family.  It takes a village.  Yes, I am guilting you into sharing my stuff.  But I am serious though – it really does help me out.  And I am not ashamed to ask you to help me out.

3) Advise me:  I am not completely up to snuff when it comes to the latest in social media.  So, if you think I should do something different – post more, post less, more pictures, less talk – please let me know.  I want Elope Asheville to be best accessible to everyone.  If you see me being a social media dummy, drop me a line and let me know.

Facebook-Like-Button I actually started a Facebook page almost immediately after “opening my doors.”  Facebook’s business model has changed over the years, though, and so in order for me to reach people, I almost always have to pay to boost my posts.  That’s just the nature of Facebook these days.  It always helps, though, to Like my page because the more people who like it, the better the chances of you seeing my posts.  Or something like that.  To be honest, I think only one or two people in the world fully understand how Facebook is handling their business pages these days.  I’m not one of them.

Instagram!  Now this is something I can get into!  My Instagram username is ElopeAsheville.  Keep in mind that this is NOT official photography from weddings we do.  Amanda Berk’s photography is much, much, MUCH better than mine.  This is me taking pictures of different aspects of what I do and see as the owner of Elope Asheville.  It’s more of a demonstration as to why I am not the official photographer of Elope Asheville.  So, in other words, it’s me having fun, showing you in picture form why I am passionate about what I do.

Pintrest is what I’m working on right now.  If you notice, I have been working on getting the blog updated from all of the weddings this spring.  I will get these arranged on Pintrest as soon as I post them on the blog so you can pin and repin to your heart’s content.  I really know very little when it comes to Pintrest, but I have a book I’m going through at the moment to help me understand.  So, follow me!  I’ll follow you back.

I’ll admit that, when it comes to saying and showing what I do, Twitter is the hardest one for me to keep up on. Elopements and weddings are very visual affairs and don’t really translate very well into 140 characters.  However, I have in the past posted reminders about updates to the blog, specials I run, upcoming added features, etc..  So, it never hurts.  I won’t spam your feed, and I try to always be mindful that I’m not the only person you want to see on your feed.

Thank you so much for all of your continued support!  I look forward to sharing with you everything that we do and how absolutely wonderful every single one of my couples are.
